Sri Lanka will hold its first ever Colombo International Maritime Conference-CIMC, in September 2015 in line with International Maritime day & UN observance day from 24th to 26th September 2015.

Known as a tourist hot spot Sri Lanka is an island in the Indian sub-continent situated along the busy east west shipping route. It is a central location with a strategic importance for international trade and transport, equipped with state-of-the-art maritime infrastructure, super structures and technologies to facilitate ports and mega ships.

Colombo is serviced by all major shipping lines with a current throughput of 5million TEU’s and is ranked 30 among container ports in the world. Known as the main transshipment hub in South Asia connecting the regional economic giant India which accounts for 80% of the GDP of the Indian subcontinent. Colombo has a new deep water sea port to accommodate the latest ULCC. The country location is an amalgamation of sea ports across the Indian subcontinent lying adjacent to the busy main east west shipping route, making the country well connected for shipping to Asia, Europe, Africa and Middle East linking the Indian subcontinent trade and shipping.

The CIMC is expected be joined by international speakers from UNCTAD, FMC, GSF, Drewry, IMB/ICC, Maersk, NYK, MSC, MOL Gac, APM, PSA and speakers from India and regional ports. Topics related to the maritime industry with a focus on the Indian subcontinent and global shipping industry will include, ports, terminals, sectorial businesses of cargo such as container, Ro/Ro, bulk, LNG developments., global freight market, cruise shipping, regulatory developments, hub strategies bunkering and green shipping etc.,

The conference will focus on a message to the word that Indian subcontinent will play a key role in trade and maritime activates of the world an Sri Lanka is ready to service the demand.
